VMware System Admin

Responsible for maintaining existing corporate systems resources on various Windows platforms, including hardware, operating systems, software upgrades, security patches and virus protection. The candidate is to have experience working with enterprise class server platforms such as Windows 2003/2008, with a strong focus on VMware. The candidate must have an understanding and in depth knowledge of managing and administrating VMware (version 5.0), Microsoft Active Directory services, and storage area network. Responsibilities also include: design and installation of enterprise systems and associated hardware. The candidate must be able to maintain and troubleshoot high availability systems in a 7x24 data center environment. He/she must also be able to develop and write systems documentation. Skills to determine problems and coordinate hardware and/or software solutions are a requirement. This position will require evening and weekend work on occasion in response to supporting systems in a 7x24 environment.

This VMware system administrator is required to maintain critical systems with an urgency and ownership while maintaining a high regard to the potential effects of actions taken, to the business and its customers. The System Administrator must exhibit all of the Company’s Cultural Attributes.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years experience working as a system administrator with a focus on VMware
- Minimum five years experience working as an administrator of Windows NT or Active Directory.
- Minimum five years experience building server class systems
- Performed in a senior or lead technical role
- Passionate about learning new technology
Must have High school diploma or GED
Required
- Must be able to work an on-call shift rotating with other staff which will include weekends and evenings
- Very strong communications skills and analytical aptitude with the ability to express technical concepts effectively, both verbal and in written form
- Strong hardware/software troubleshooting and network diagnostic skills are essential
- Ability to work independently
- Punctuality and dependability is required
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must be able to be coached and take on challenging projects
Preferred
Technical Skills
Skillset would include: Windows 2003/2008, Advance Experience with Active Directory, Terminal Server, Enterprise class Dell Servers, knowledge of VPN/firewalls/DNS, WAN / LAN infrastructures. Prior experience working in mid to large size enterprise environments.
Professional Skills
Proven systems administration experience with the ability to draft and follow tasks on a project plan.
